'Towards a Healthier Economy' report
The first report published by the Transform Scotland Trust, ‘Towards a Healthier Economy’: Why investing in sustainable transport makes economic sense, was undertaken in partnership with Sustrans.
The research examined where information on the economic benefits of sustainable transport exists and where there are gaps in current knowledge. Based on the findings – one of which was the potential multi-billion pound saving to the economy by getting people out of their cars and onto their bikes - the report recommended the incorporation of health impacts of transport decisions into the Scottish Government’s STAG appraisal framework.
In 2009 we will continue to work on this key topic, developing new work on the basis of the report’s recommendations including those relating to Transport and Tourism.
