Climate plans disappointingly poor
Commenting on the Scottish Government's publication of the finalised version of its revised climate change action plan ('Report on Proposals and Policies' or 'RPP2'), Transform Scotland director Colin Howden said:
"The transport section of RPP2 is essentially unchanged from the draft. So it's every bit as bad as it was before. It’s as if they hadn’t just missed their first two climate targets!
"The plan effectively halves (47% down) the effort expected from the transport ‘Proposals’ since RPP1. It relies entirely on the EU for committed action on cutting transport climate emissions (the ‘Policies’), and sets out no Scottish initiatives ('Policies') to reduce emissions in the transport sector. It also relies on unexplained emission cuts in 2025-27 to hit the targets. This sounds very far from "world-leading" climate action to us."
