'Car Clubs Review' project

In 2009-10, the Transform Scotland Trust carried out a review of the opportunities for car club development in Scotland and how these may reduce carbon emissions from transport whilst also expanding the co-operative sector and creating new employment.

The study, carried out for TST by Chas Ball, included a stakeholder consultation of what is needed to establish a supportive policy framework and effective mechanism to deliver support. There are some towns and cities and smaller communities where interest in this idea is already established.

The final report from the project was published in September 2010 and is available to download.

One specific outcome of the project was the decision by the Scottish Government, in November 2010, to set up a fund to provide for the expansion of car clubs into rural areas.
